Indian Passport

In accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) guidelines, no hand-written passports would be accepted worldwide after 2014. Government of India has decided to introduce Machine Readable Passport (MRPs) w.e.f. 26 August, 2007. Under the proposed system, applicants should apply online on the web site (embassy.passportindia.gov.in) or (Passport Seva at Indian Embassies and Consulates).

Steps for applying Passport:

i) Go to website https://embassy.passportindia.gov.in OR https://portal5.passportindia.gov.in/

ii) Select/click 'Online Registration Column'.

Re-Issue of Passport

         vi. Save the online registration form. Take a print-out of the same.

     2.  Submit the printed application form along with relevant documents and pay the applicable fee (check at https://www.hcindiatz.gov.in/fee-structure.php ) at High Commission of India, Dar Es Salaam.

  1.  Applications to be submitted along with passport copy, Residence Permit/Work Permit /ID copy/Dependent pass/School pass etc and other supporting documents.

     4.  Applicants residing in the Tanzania should submit the applications at High Commission of India, Dar es Salaam. All applicants should submit the application in person for identification (Including minors and new born babies).

     5.  Photographs should be in colour and against white background and should be of the size of 51 mm X 51 mm (2 inch x 2 inch). The photograph should have a frontal view, with both ears and chin to forehead being visible. Eyes should be open. There should not be any distracting shadows on the face or on the background. Head coverings are not permitted except for religious reasons, but the facial features from bottom of chin to top of forehead and both edges of the face must be clearly shown. The expression on the face should look natural.

    6.  The signature of the applicant should exactly fit in the prescribed column (4.5 x 1.5 cm). Please ensure that the applicant fills the surname column and the given name column correctly.   

    7.  In the permanent address (in India) column, please ensure that there is complete postal address including the pin code legibly.   

    8.  An ordinary passport is valid for ten years from the date of issue. It may please be noted that the Passport Issuing Authority, can issue passports even for a shorter duration. Minors are issued passports for 5 years or up to attaining 18 years, whichever is earlier.

    9.  The Passport service asked for should be in the proper prescribed form accompanied with appropriate fees. The application for the service in any other form is not acceptable. Applicants are advised to ensure that their application in the prescribed format is complete in all respects; that all columns are correctly and legibly filled up and no column is left blank or unfilled / un-responded or vaguely filled with a dash, tick, etc. All signatures in the application should be with ballpoint pen of black or blue ink. Those who cannot affix their signatures like infants, minors or illiterate should put their thumb impression in the place of signature.

   10.  The scale of fees for renewal and various passport related services and various other passport related services, including all kinds of miscellaneous services on passport, are prescribed by Government of India from time to time. The rate of fee in vogue is given along with the various services.

   11.  It is an offence under the Passport Act 1967 to furnish false information in the application. Passport facilities would be denied on grounds of suppression of material information, submission of incorrect particulars, willful damage/loss of passport or for unauthorized change/tampering. The Passport can be impounded or revoked for violation of one or more of the provisions of the Passport Act.

  12.  It is an offence to hold more than one valid passport at a time.

  13.  The delivery of processed documents is to be done preferably by the applicant himself/herself or to the person authorized by the applicant in writing and accompanied by the official receipt given to him/her at the time of submission.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IF THERE IS ANY CHANGE IN PARTICULARS FROM THE PREVIOUS PASSPORT, BE IT NAME/RESIDENCE/ADDITION/DELETION, THE SAME SHOULD BE SUPPORTED BY ORIGINAL PROOFS/DOCUMENTS AND THEIR PHOTOCOPIES.

Change of First Name / Full Name - The applicant is also required to submit (a) a Court Order or notarized affidavit, (b) clipping of a notice in a newspaper in a local daily, and (c) clipping of a notice in a newspaper in the state of applicant's domicile in India along with above-mentioned documents.

Change to Married Name - The applicant is required to apply along with the passport, the marriage certificate and its photocopy, a sworn affidavit giving married and maiden names, husband's passport, and a joint photograph of the married couple. If the first name is also to be changed after the marriage, additional requirements as specified for the "Change of full name" are also to be met.

Change of Appearance - A new passport may be issued in lieu of a currently valid passport on application on the ground of a change of appearance of the passport-holder.

FRESH PASSPORT FOR NEW BORN CHILD


ONLINE REGISTRATION OF BIRTH OF CHILDREN FOR INDIAN CITIZENSHIP


Government of India has made it mandatory to register online the birth of a child as an Indian citizen. For detail information applicants are requested to visit the website of Ministry of Home Affairs http://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in


PROCEDURE FOR ONLINE REGISTRATION OF BIRTH


In order to register the birth of a child born within the consular jurisdiction of the High Commission of India, Dar es Salaam i.e. Tanzania and Zanzibar as an Indian citizen, the application must be made online as mentioned below.

2. Please go to Ministry of Home Affairs website by typing in address of web browser http://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Ic_Form_Public.aspx

3. The applicant after accessing the above mentioned website shall select one from the list of Section/Form (For Registration of birth of a minor child at an Indian Consulate under Section 4(1) of the citizenship act, 1955)

4. Click 'Apply Online' button to fill up the form.


i) Each online application form is meant for one person only. Separate application has to be filed for each applicant.
ii) The online form should be filled in Block/Capital letters.
iii) Furnish information exactly in the manner asked for in the forms, especially the names, address and date of birth.
iv) Application details are to be verified before submission online.
v) Once the online application form is submitted by the applicant, then further modifications are not allowed. Hence applicants are requested to check and validate the details before submitting the online application form.
vi) After filing all the details in the online application form, the form is saved and submitted to the High Commission of India, Dar es Salaam.

5) As soon as the form is submitted, a MHA File number will be generated automatically and will appear on the screen as an acknowledgement. The applicants are advised to keep the MHA File Number for further correspondence and online status tracking.

6) Applicant has to take the print out of filled up online application by clicking the Print application tab from the main menu.

7) After clicking on Print application tab from the main menu the applicant has to enter his/her MHA File Number and date of Birth as an identity to access the submitted application. A PDF application form shall be displayed with an option of pasting applicant's recent passport size photograph as per specification at Link http://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Ic_Form_Public.aspx

Recent passport size photograph of the applicant is to be affixed on each form in the prescribed space. Photograph to be affixed on the application should be of square shape of size not less than 35x35 mm (with 80% coverage by face). It should have light colour background (not white) without border with front view of person's head and shoulders showing the full face in the middle of the photograph. It should not be stapled and should not have any signature. Photographs that do not conform to these standards will be rejected and may cause a delay in processing the applications.

8) The applicant shall take the print out of the application submitted by them. He/ she is required to put his Signature/Thumb impression at the designated signature box.


* A person who has not attained the age of 18 years is considered as minor. Parents /guardians must sign in the column prescribed for them in the form.

9) The signed hard copy of the online application along with requisite supporting documents for grant of citizenship is to be submitted in triplicate to the High Commission of India, Dar es Salaam.
The High Commission of India, Dar es Salaam will validate and upload the scanned copy of the documents enclosed with the application form.

10) If the application is made within one year of birth of child as per above-mentioned process and subject to completing the eligibility criteria as per Ministry of Home Affairs regulation, the High Commission shall do the birth registration and provide the Indian citizenship.

In case, the application is made after one year of birth of child, the process is same, however applications will be forwarded to Ministry of Home Affairs for their approval. Thereafter, on receipt of approval of Ministry of Home Affairs, the High Commission will register the birth of the child as an Indian citizen.

11. The eligibility criteria and required documents to apply for registration of Birth of Minor child under section 4(1) of the Citizenship Act 1955, the following documents are to be annexed with the application
i) A Copy of the birth certificate of the child
ii) A copy of the Indian Passport of both the parents
iii) A copy of the certificate of Indian citizenship if acquired by registration/naturalization
iv) A copy of the marriage certificate of the parents
v) A declaration that the minor child does not hold the passport of any other country.

Note: The applicants are advised to go through the provisions of India Citizenship Act, 1955 and the rules framed there under before submitting the application for grant of Indian Citizenship.



Emergency Certificate

An Emergency Certificate (EC), as a one-way travel document, may be issued in lieu of a passport to authorise an Indian national to enter India if, while abroad, his passport has been lost, stolen, damaged, impounded or revoked, or he has been refused a passport, or he has to be repatriated to India.
An Indian passport-holder wishing to acquire citizenship of other countries is required to renounce his/her Indian citizenship at the nearest Indian Mission. It is allowed only for a small number of specified countries for Indian nationals to hold two passports. Tanzania does not allow dual citizenship.
